Speech in Chronos Clock

Chronos Clock uses Microsoft Speech API (SAPI) to speak the time and announce alarm messages.

The Speech API is a standard pre-installed component of Windows although the version supplied and the range of pre-installed voices varies depending on the operating System. However Chronos will work with SAPI version 4 and 5 and Windows supports both speech engines if installed.

Updating SAPI and adding voices.

In order to use the speech system you must have installed a text to speech engine and one or more voices. If you search online you will find additional voices available for download, however the table below gives download links for additional free Microsoft components

Please note that all the files listed here are copyright Microsoft Corporation and you will have to accept their license agreement before downloading. There are a number of choices, depending on your operating system:
